How Co-op Works
Subnautica 2 introduces full 4-player cooperative gameplay for the first time in the series. Players can join a host's world and explore, build, and survive together on the planet Proteus.
Each player has their own inventory and can craft independently, but base building and vehicle usage are shared. The host's game world serves as the central server, with other players joining via invite or matchmaking.
Tip: Voice chat is highly recommended. The underwater environment makes text communication difficult during dives.
Synced Progress
Story progress and blueprint unlocks are synced across all players in a session. If one player scans a blueprint, everyone unlocks it. This encourages exploration as a team.
Personal achievements and Steam stats are tracked individually. Each player earns their own progress toward milestones.
Warning: Using console commands in co-op may disable achievements for all players in the session.
Co-op Tips
- Divide roles: Assign one player to resource gathering, another to base building, and others to exploration.
- Share vehicles: The Seamoth and Prawn Suit can carry two players. Use this for deep dives together.
- Coordinate oxygen: Always leave someone with spare tanks at the surface when exploring deep biomes.
- Signal flares: Use flares or beacons to mark points of interest for other players.
